  • The largest alumni presence is in China, with more than 11,000 graduates based there
  • There are more than 2,000 alumni in India, more than 3,000 in Singapore and almost 4,000 in the US

Alumni International Guides

Looking to move abroad? The Alumni Relations team asked alumni across the globe to share their advice on settling in another country, from finding a job to socialising in these helpful guides to some popular destinations.

For example, did you know?

  • In India websites like Monster and Naukri are used to find jobs
  • In Singapore people tend to eat out more often than cook
  • There is a large community of UK expats in Hong Kong

International Alumni Groups

There are alumni groups in many countries that provide a link to fellow alumni living in the same area and organise alumni events. If you’re travelling or living abroad and would like to meet up with fellow alumni overseas visit our international alumni webpage to find out more. If there is not a group in your area, and if you would be interested in starting one or hosting an event, please contact us for support.

Alumnus Luke Hawkridge (LLB Law, 2009) said: 'I became aware of the US society in the ‘You’re Invited’ events newsletter. As I was relocating to New York with work I contacted Dave (Chair of University of Birmingham USA Alumni Society) to find out more about it and any upcoming events I could attend after my move. I have attended numerous events over the last 18 months, and together with gaining invaluable tips, which helped me settle into living and working in NYC, I have built a broader professional network outside of work.'
